FLORALS
When I began painting, I wanted to paint flowers. Lots and lots of flowers. And so the floodgates opened wide. I loved every moment of every petal and stem. It was so much harder than it looked, but after much time and energy, recognizable flowers began to emerge on my canvases. Of course, once they became recognizable as actual flowers, I began abstracting them. Initially, it felt wrong to do that, so I’d paint over these attempts and create a representational flower. But they never felt lively enough for me. So, after a couple of years of this, I surrendered to the urge and began to paint florals as I wanted to see them. And then the real fun began.
